World Sound Healing Day – Auckland, New Zealand – Meditation – F# Gamma Waves
Please enjoy my contribution to World Sound Healing Day, on the 14th of February, 2022.
Gamma waves are one of the five brain wave frequencies that show up on an electroencephalograph, between 40Hz and 100Hz. In meditation, these frequencies are said to enhance your sense of completeness.
For this piece, there is an F# pedal note, over which is an arpeggiated pattern using and F# major chord with an added 2nd and flattened 7th, so you have an ethereal, whole tone effect. Two ‘choral’ chords fade in and out, one of which has a suspended 4th in it, whilst there is another chord in the middle section that gradually builds and fades. There were supposed to be several different chords in this, but I liked the way things developed with just the single F# chord – as Lou Reed once said, “One chord is fine, two chords is pushing it and three chords? Well, that’s jazz!”
The piece was composed, arranged and performed by me, using Musescore, recorded and mixed using Ardour, whilst the tones came from a Yamaha Motif, a Yamaha MU90, a Mellotron and a Modal Cobalt.
The lovely artwork is Realistic Space Solar Eclipse by Agung Wibisono and was taken from https://www.vecteezy.com/
